The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended three suspects in connection with the alleged murder of a sex worker at a brothel located in the Cathedral area of Akure, the state capital.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 29, following a disagreement between the victim and a male customer. According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the sex worker reportedly became weak during the encounter and informed the customer that she could no longer continue.

In response, the customer allegedly demanded a refund of the N15,000 payment. Attempts by the brothel manager and other individuals to resolve the dispute amicably were unsuccessful.

Shortly thereafter, the man returned with two associates. The trio purportedly tried to forcibly reclaim the money from the victim. Sensing the escalation of the situation, the brothel manager promptly alerted the police.

Officers from ‘A’ Division were dispatched to the scene and found the suspects attempting to retrieve the money, while the condition of the woman had significantly deteriorated. She was immediately taken to a private hospital in the Lafe area and subsequently referred to the Police Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Her remains have been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The police confirmed the arrest of three suspects at the scene, while two others are currently at large.

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation. He assured the public of the police’s commitment to ensuring justice and appealed to residents to remain calm and provide any information that may assist the investigation.
