Three die in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway accident

Three people were killed on Thursday morning at Arepo bus stop on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The three, two Okada riders and a panel beater, who came to work in Arepo were ran over by a Toyota Corrola car with registration number FKJ-848FH. They died on the spot.

Four other persons; three Okada riders and a woman who is a resident of Arepo, sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Men of the Warewa police post and officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) were on hand to evacuate the dead.

Okada riders converged on the spot where the accident occurred waiting for passengers either into Arepo community or Berger bus stop in Lagos.

Eyewitnesses said the driver of the car, who ran away after the accident, apparently had a break failure, and in an attempt to use the kerb to stop the car, crushed the victims, pushing them some metres away before hitting a concrete road divide.

The community is already taking measures to prevent future occurrence by ensuring that okada riders and vehicles are not allowed to pick or drop passengers at the entrance again.
