Three persons, Emmanuel Fache, 24, Oluwanifise Adejoke, 22, and a minor, were on Thursday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court over alleged assault, public fighting and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

The defendants, whose addresses were not disclosed, were slammed with a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, fighting in a public place, assault and conduct capable of disturbing public peace. They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the alleged offences were committed on July 11 at about 7:00 p.m. along Oke-Ori Omi Street in Ado-Ekiti.

According to the prosecutor, the defendants engaged in a public fight, while the second defendant allegedly conspired to assault the third defendant by slapping her during the incident.

He added that the defendants’ actions were capable of causing a breach of the peace and violated relevant provisions of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

“The defendants fought openly in a public place, while the second defendant assaulted the third defendant by slapping her,” Oriyomi told the court.

Counsel for the defendants, Olayinka Opaleke, prayed the court to grant them bail, assuring the court that they would be available for trial and would not jump bail.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun admitted each defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until August 21 for hearing.
