Residents of Abo-Asakin community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State have apprehended three suspected herdsmen over what they described as suspicious movements in the area.

The suspects were arrested by vigilant residents amid heightened concerns over recent cases of kidnapping and insecurity in the community.

Speaking on behalf of the Asakin of Abo-Asakin, Oba Adebayo Sunday, the community secretary, Gold Babatunde, said the arrest followed increased surveillance by locals determined to protect lives and property.

Babatunde noted that the community had intensified vigilance due to recurring security threats in Akure North and its environs.

Also speaking, the Agba Akin of Abo-Asakin, Chief Sukanmi Adeleye, who was kidnapped last year and later released, said he recognised one of the suspects, further raising alarm among residents. He explained that the familiarity heightened suspicion, given the prevailing security situation in the area.

The three suspects were subsequently handed over to operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, for further investigation.
