Vice President Kashim Shettima has reiterated the Tinubu administration’s commitment to ensuring quality education for all Nigerian children, emphasizing the vital role of private sector partnerships in achieving this goal.
Speaking at Government Science Secondary School, Pyakasa, Abuja, during the presentation of digital learning devices donated by MTN Nigeria Communications PLC, the Vice President stressed the importance of increased investment in education and digital literacy.
“Investing in quality education for every Nigerian child remains a top priority for the Tinubu administration,” Shettima said. “We recognize that private sector support is essential in achieving this mission.”
He commended MTN Nigeria for its donation, describing it as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s intellectual capital. The company has provided 4,600 digital devices to secondary school students across the six geopolitical zones.
Shettima underscored the significance of digital learning, noting that education now extends beyond the traditional classroom.
“The classroom is no longer just a physical space; it is an infinite world of knowledge, only a click away. The most transformative lessons of our time are happening online,” he remarked.
He conveyed President Tinubu’s appreciation to MTN’s Board Chairman, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, for the initiative and urged other private sector players to support education through technology-driven solutions.
“These devices will ensure that our children are as equipped as their counterparts across the world to function effectively in a technology-driven 21st century,” Shettima added.
Dr. Ndukwe described the initiative as a significant milestone in MTN’s commitment to digital literacy and education inclusion in Nigeria. He noted that the tablets, pre-installed with U-Lesson software, would equip students with essential tools to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
Similarly, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation and MSMEs, Temitola Adekunle-Johnson, hailed the initiative as a major step in advancing science education and digital literacy nationwide.
He revealed that the program will be expanded to schools across the country to ensure wider access to digital education tools.
Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, Mukhtar Shagaya, emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing Nigeria’s education challenges.
He pledged legislative support for initiatives aimed at improving education infrastructure and digital learning opportunities.
The Principal of Government Science Secondary School, Pyakasa, Mallam Isa Okuru, expressed gratitude for the initiative, describing it as an investment in the future of Nigerian students and a boost for science and technology education.
Vice President Shettima encouraged students to maximize the opportunities provided by the digital devices, urging them to use the tablets to expand their knowledge and prepare for limitless possibilities in the future.
The event, attended by top government officials, MTN executives, and education sector stakeholders, concluded with the official distribution of digital learning devices to students and school administrators.
