Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday led top political leaders, monarchs and eminent Nigerians to Akure, Ondo State, for the 100th birthday celebration of Afenifere leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti.
Shettima, who represented President Bola Tinubu at the event, described the elder statesman as a symbol of courage, sacrifice and principled leadership, stressing that the celebrant has remained a moral compass whose life reflects service, justice and compassion for the people.
The vice president noted that the centenarian witnessed Nigeria’s colonial era, independence, military rule and democratic transitions, yet remained steadfast in his convictions. He added that the elder statesman consistently stood for the oppressed and chose principle over personal comfort.
Similarly, the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, described Fasoranti as a living institution whose century-long life embodies integrity, discipline and selfless service. “Pa Fasoranti represents the highest form of leadership built on moral authority rather than political power or wealth,” the governor stated.
Aiyedatiwa further urged younger Nigerians to emulate the Afenifere leader’s values of honesty and sacrifice, stressing that true greatness is rooted in character. “His humility and simplicity continue to inspire generations across the country,” he added.
In his remarks, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, indicated that Fasoranti’s life remained worthy of national celebration, noting that tributes from leaders at the event reflected the widespread respect he commands.
In the same vein, former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, described the centenary celebration as a tribute to dignity, honour and resilience, adding that Pa Fasoranti is a complete man whose life offers enduring lessons in leadership and humility.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; Senator Iyiola Omisore; traditional rulers led by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye; and the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, alongside members of the Fasoranti family.
