Tinubu appoints Binta Garba as Pro-Chancellor of new Federal University in Ekiti

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Binta Garba as the pro-chancellor and chairperson of the governing council of the newly established Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences in Iyin-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Garba, a former senator representing Adamawa North (2015–2019) and a three-term member of the House of Representatives (1999–2011), will lead the university’s governing council alongside Joseph Sanya, Efe Emmanuel, Joyce Ogunyemi, and Dahiru Ruma.
The university’s newly appointed principal officers include James Aribisala as vice-chancellor, Oluwole Dada as registrar, Adeniyi Ajayi as bursar, and Isaac Busayo as librarian.
In a statement, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga highlighted Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele’s role in advocating for the institution’s establishment.
Tinubu urged the appointees to leverage their leadership experience to drive academic excellence, research, and innovation. The university is set to admit its first batch of students in September.
In a separate development, Tinubu has appointed Muhammed Audu as the pro-chancellor and chairman of the governing board of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State. Audu replaces Ohieku Salami in the role.
A professor of mathematics at the University of Jos, Audu previously served as vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, where he spearheaded initiatives to enhance academic and infrastructural development.
