Tinubu approves land allocation for ambassadors as Wike urges stronger diplomatic engagement

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has approved the allocation of land to ambassadors and high commissioners-designate in Abuja to strengthen diplomatic engagement and ties.

Wike made this known on Tuesday while hosting ambassadors-designate, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dunoma Umar Ahmed, at his residence in Life Camp, Abuja.

He said the initiative was aimed at ensuring Nigeria’s envoys have a permanent base in the capital for official duties and periodic briefings.

“The president believes that most of you do not have a place in Abuja. He will encourage you to see how you will put up where you can stay. Before you leave this morning, each and every one of you should have your form to apply for a land allocation in Abuja,” Wike said.

The minister added that the move would deepen diplomatic presence in Abuja and enhance collaboration between foreign missions and the FCT administration.

He urged the envoys to project Nigeria positively abroad, noting that their conduct would shape the country’s global image and influence international perception.

Wike also dismissed concerns about Nigeria becoming a one-party state, insisting the country remains a multi-party democracy and urging diplomats to communicate this clearly in their postings.

Earlier, Ahmed noted that the visit was part of the ambassadors’ induction programme and stressed the importance of promoting economic diplomacy, attracting investment and strengthening Nigeria’s global image.
