Tinubu calls for rule of law to restore peace in Rivers State

President Bola Tinubu has urged political leaders to uphold the rule of law as a means to restore peace and stability in Rivers State.
Speaking at a meeting with Niger Delta leaders under the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) on Tuesday in Abuja, the President emphasized the need to respect judicial decisions to strengthen democracy and foster development.

Tinubu called on stakeholders in Rivers State to recognize and implement court rulings, stressing that governance in Nigeria is anchored on the rule of law.
“This is a nation governed by the rule of law. I should not be here as President without the rule of law. I have total confidence in our judiciary. We have expectations, and human beings can make errors. But once the court has spoken, that is it,” he said.

Beyond the Rivers crisis, Tinubu reassured Niger Delta leaders of his administration’s commitment to regional development. He acknowledged the strategic importance of the region, often referred to as “the goose that lays the golden egg,” and vowed to ensure its economic prosperity.
He highlighted ongoing projects, including the coastal road initiative, which he said would bring significant economic benefits. He also mentioned plans to collaborate with international firms to develop seaports in the Niger Delta.
In response, PANDEF leaders commended the President’s interventions but called for further federal efforts to resolve the Rivers State crisis. Former Akwa Ibom State Governor and co-chair of the PANDEF Board of Trustees, Obong Victor Attah, warned that instability in Rivers could have national repercussions.
King Alfred Papapreye Diete-Spiff, the Amanyanabo of Twon-Brass Kingdom, expressed appreciation for Tinubu’s appointments of Niger Delta indigenes and ongoing economic reforms.
