President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), as he marks his 83rd birthday.

In a statement released on Sunday, President Tinubu described the retired general as an elder statesman of “uncommon integrity” whose decades of service continue to inspire generations of Nigerians.

Highlighting General Abubakar’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s democratic history, Tinubu praised him for overseeing the country’s peaceful transition to civilian rule in 1999 — a milestone he called “a watershed moment” that strengthened constitutional democracy.

The President also commended Abubakar’s ongoing contributions as Chairman of the National Peace Committee, noting his efforts to foster dialogue, defuse tension, and ensure credible elections across the country.

“He is a patriot whose voice of moderation and statesmanship is deeply valued at a time when unity and leadership are more critical than ever,” Tinubu said.

The President wished the former leader continued strength, good health, and divine grace in the years ahead.
