President Bola Tinubu has congratulated renowned pharmacist and public health advocate Ifejola Arowolo on his 80th birthday, commending his remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
In a statement released on Friday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu lauded Arowolo’s decades-long career in both the public and private health sectors in Nigeria and the United States.
The president highlighted Arowolo’s leadership as the pioneer chairman of the National Drug Abuse Committee in Ondo State and his tenure as the state’s director of pharmaceutical services. He also praised his relentless fight against counterfeit drugs and commitment to integrity in public service.
Tinubu acknowledged Arowolo’s efforts in integrating indigenous Nigerian medicine with Western practices, enhancing healthcare accessibility and affordability for many Nigerians. He further recognized his advocacy for education as a key tool in poverty alleviation.
Describing Arowolo as a principled and disciplined leader, Tinubu attributed his strong civic commitment to his faith-based academic background.
The president also noted Arowolo’s lasting influence, including on his children, one of whom, Olu Verheijen, serves as Tinubu’s special adviser on energy.
As Arowolo marks this significant milestone, Tinubu wished him continued health and happiness, celebrating his enduring legacy in the healthcare sector and beyond.
