Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has revealed that President Bola Tinubu urged the governors of all 36 states to play a pivotal role in fostering collaboration between the federal and sub-national governments to advance Nigeria’s development.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with President Tinubu at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu said the President emphasized the governors’ critical role in implementing policies that directly affect citizens, urging strengthened cooperation to drive social transformation.

Sanwo-Olu added that the meeting also provided an opportunity to congratulate Tinubu on being named “Man of the Year” by a leading newspaper and to discuss collective aspirations for 2024.

“Mr. President reminded us that as sub-nationals, we have a significant role to play. The decisions and policies we implement deeply impact citizens,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“He assured us of his full support in achieving the irreversible journey of social transformation for the country.”

He further noted that the governors reiterated their commitment to supporting Tinubu’s leadership while the President pledged to assist them in fostering collaborative efforts for the benefit of citizens.

“The President assured us of his readiness to back us, emphasizing that collaboration is essential for citizens to experience the benefits of governance,” he added.

On the status of the Tax Reform Bills, Sanwo-Olu explained that consultations had been thorough and the matter now rested with the National Assembly, which would finalize a bill suitable for all Nigerians.

Looking ahead, Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism for the year, promising better outcomes for citizens through unified leadership and shared goals.

“It’s a way to start the new year with a common vision and clear roles. We are expectant and hopeful for positive developments,” he said.
