Tinubu commends NDLEA over $360m drug cartel bust

President Bola Tinubu has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for a major operation that dismantled a Nigerian–Mexican drug trafficking syndicate and uncovered a multi-million-dollar illicit drug production network in Nigeria.

The NDLEA announced the breakthrough on Wednesday following weeks of intelligence-led operations conducted in collaboration with international partners.

According to the agency, the operation led to the arrest of foreign nationals, local drug kingpins and other collaborators, as well as the seizure of chemicals and illicit drugs valued at over $360 million.

Chairman of the NDLEA, Mohammed Buba Marwa, said the operation reflected sustained efforts to combat drug trafficking networks operating across borders.

President Tinubu, in a statement on Thursday signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the operation as a demonstration of “exceptional professionalism, courage, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding society from the devastating effects of narcotics.”

“This successful operation, which led to the arrest of foreign nationals, local kingpins and other collaborators, as well as the seizure of chemicals and illicit drugs valued at over $360 million, demonstrates exceptional professionalism, courage, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding society from the devastating effects of narcotics,” the statement read.

Tinubu commended the NDLEA operatives for their bravery and urged them not to relent in the fight against drug trafficking.

“I commend the bravery, resilience, and dedication displayed by operatives of the NDLEA throughout this mission. I urge them not to be complacent in confronting the menace of drug trafficking,” he said.
