Tinubu commissions Abuja Water Network, assures equal access for all districts

President Bola Tinubu on Monday commissioned the Greater Abuja Water Supply Network, describing the project as both a technical and moral milestone that ensures no part of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is left behind in Nigeria’s development agenda.

Speaking at the ceremony on Airport Road, Tinubu said access to safe and sufficient water is not a luxury but a basic human right and a crucial driver of public health and economic growth.

“This water infrastructure is not only a technical milestone but a moral one, because it is about equity. It ensures that no part of Abuja is left behind in our national development agenda,” the President said.

He praised the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), led by Minister Nyesom Wike, and all stakeholders for their dedication to the project, adding that his Renewed Hope Agenda prioritises initiatives that deliver tangible improvements to citizens’ daily lives.

“When we speak of the Renewed Hope Agenda, we mean tangible, people-focused projects that improve the daily lives of ordinary Nigerians. Water to drink, to clean, to grow, to build—this is real progress,” he added.

President Tinubu also thanked international development partners, particularly the Chinese Government and CGC Nigeria Limited, for their collaboration on the project. He urged residents to protect the infrastructure and use water wisely to ensure sustainability.

In his remarks, Minister Wike thanked the President for his commitment to addressing Abuja’s critical infrastructure needs, noting that Tinubu had prioritised the revival of mass transit and the capital’s water supply from his first days in office.

Wike explained that the water project, initially awarded in 2017 for $470 million under a tripartite arrangement between China, the Federal Government, and the FCT Administration, has now been revived and expanded.
