Tinubu committed to modernizing Nigeria’s media — Minister Idris

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has reaffirmed the Bola Tinubu administration’s commitment to the modernization and transformation of Nigeria’s media and broadcasting sector.

Speaking at the Sixth Edition of the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing Series held at the National Press Centre, Abuja, on Thursday, Idris said the government is determined to reposition the country’s media landscape through strategic reforms and global partnerships.

The Minister disclosed that he had just returned from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Conference and Workshop in Las Vegas, United States, where industry leaders gathered to explore innovations and emerging trends under the theme, “The Technology, The Trend, The Future.”

Idris, who was accompanied by heads of agencies under the Ministry, said he held a series of high-level meetings during the conference aimed at forging partnerships to enhance Nigeria’s technical and technological broadcasting capacities.

“I have shared these experiences to reaffirm the unwavering commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration towards the lasting transformation of Nigeria’s media landscape,” he said. “It is this same commitment that drives initiatives like the Ministerial Press Briefing Series and our forthcoming Town Hall Meetings, which will be taken to every part of the country.”

The Minister also revealed that he attended the Nigerian Business Forum in Paris, France, hosted by Business France, where he met with senior executives of UNESCO. Discussions centered around the establishment of a pioneering Media and Information Literacy Institute in Abuja, an initiative expected to play a key role in the professional development of Nigerian journalists and in strengthening a resilient, responsible media ecosystem.

He further emphasized that the ongoing press briefing series and the planned nationwide Town Hall Meetings are part of broader efforts to promote open governance, encourage dialogue, and reinforce the social contract between the government and citizens.

Also speaking at the briefing, the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, outlined major interventions in the power sector, highlighting efforts to support Nigeria’s industrialization drive and expand energy access across the country.
