Tinubu committed to unity, security – Aide tells bishops

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy and Communication, Daniel Bwala, has reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to inclusive governance, national unity, and combating insecurity across Nigeria.

Bwala made the remarks on Friday while receiving a delegation from the Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The bishops had come to raise concerns over escalating violence in Benue and Plateau states and to formally inform the Presidency of their upcoming 2025 Synod.

Led by CBCN Secretary-General, Bishop Chivir Chianson, the delegation described the situation in parts of the Middle Belt as alarming, citing frequent killings, mass displacements, and the destruction of churches.

“We are witnessing weekly killings, forced displacements, and the burning of churches,” Bishop Chianson said. “This is no longer a political issue – it is a war on communities and requires urgent federal intervention.”

Although the bishops stopped short of calling for a state of emergency, they warned that slow security responses were worsening the humanitarian crisis.

Responding, Bwala assured them that President Tinubu had instructed security agencies to act swiftly and impartially in tackling all forms of violence, including insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and communal clashes.

“There is zero tolerance for criminality,” Bwala stated. “This government is committed to the safety and welfare of every Nigerian, in line with the Constitution.”

He added that the administration is using both military and non-military approaches to address insecurity, including collaboration with state governments and initiatives focused on community engagement and economic empowerment.
