Tinubu confers GCON on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi

President Bola Tinubu has conferred the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), Nigeria’s second-highest national honor, on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The honor was bestowed during a bilateral meeting held on Sunday at Aso Rock. Speaking at the event, Tinubu said, “The honor is to signify our appreciation of India as Nigeria’s partner.”

According to Western Post Online, Prime Minister Modi arrived in Abuja on Saturday evening and was officially received at the Forecourt of the Presidential Villa on Sunday at about 10:20 a.m.

The welcoming ceremony featured a rendition of the Indian National Anthem, followed by the Nigerian National Anthem. A Guard of Honour, mounted by the Brigade of Guards, then led the Indian Prime Minister in inspecting the parade. The ceremony included a 21-gun salute, symbolizing the high-level diplomatic occasion.

After the formalities, President Tinubu escorted Prime Minister Modi into his office for a closed-door meeting, where discussions centered on strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
