Tinubu congratulates Customs CG Adeniyi on re-election as WCO Council chair

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on his unanimous re-election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organization Council.
A statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Adeniyi was re-elected during the organisation’s 147th and 148th Council Sessions held in Brussels.
President Tinubu described the re-election as a historic endorsement of Adeniyi’s leadership and Nigeria’s growing influence in global customs administration.
According to the President, his recent approval of Adeniyi’s tenure extension as Comptroller-General of Customs was driven by the need to sustain the ongoing reform agenda within the Nigeria Customs Service.
The statement said the international customs community’s overwhelming endorsement reflects Adeniyi’s success in consolidating reforms, strengthening institutional capacity, modernising customs administration, and positioning the Nigeria Customs Service among the world’s leading customs institutions.
President Tinubu also highlighted the Service’s achievements under Adeniyi’s leadership, including improvements in revenue generation, trade facilitation, anti-smuggling operations, border management, stakeholder engagement, and technology-driven reforms.
He particularly commended the deployment of B’Odogwu, Nigeria’s indigenous customs clearance platform, saying it has simplified cargo clearance, reduced reliance on foreign systems, improved transparency and operational efficiency, and supported the Federal Government’s drive for a more competitive, technology-driven economy.
Describing the re-election as a source of national pride, the President said:
“Adeniyi’s unanimous re-election is not only a personal honour to Adeniyi, but also a recognition of Nigeria’s growing influence in global customs administration.
