Tinubu congratulates Super Eagles on AFCON bronze medal win

By Kunle Sanni –
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles following their bronze medal victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Nigerian national team secured third place on Saturday after defeating seven-time champions Egypt in a penalty shoot-out. The match ended goalless after regulation time, with Nigeria dominating much of the encounter.
President Tinubu praised the team for their resilience, particularly after their semi-final defeat to host nation Morocco last Wednesday, which also went to penalties.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the players demonstrated determination, persistence and the “can-do spirit” for which Nigeria is known.
He noted that despite a strong run in the tournament, the Super Eagles narrowly missed a place in the final, dashing hopes of lifting the trophy.
However, he said the team remained focused and undeterred, eventually earning a well-deserved podium finish.
President Tinubu said Nigerians would be proud as the team received their bronze medals on Sunday in Rabat, Morocco, describing the achievement as one that “feels good like gold.”
The Super Eagles’ victory over Egypt marked a strong finish to Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 campaign.
