Tinubu departs Lagos for Abuja after UK trip, Eid holiday

President Bola Tinubu has departed Lagos for Abuja after returning from his historic state visit to the United Kingdom and spending the Eid-al-Fitr holiday in Lagos.

The President’s jet took off from the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 6:50 pm on Wednesday.

President Tinubu travelled to the UK from March 18 to 19, 2026, on a state visit at the invitation of Charles III.

Many experts had described the visit as historic as it was the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to Britain in about 37 years and was aimed at strengthening diplomatic, trade and security relations between both countries.

During the visit, Tinubu and the First Lady were hosted at Windsor Castle with full state honours, including ceremonial events and high-level meetings to deepen Nigeria-UK bilateral cooperation.

After the UK trip, the President returned to the country and headed to Lagos where he observed the Eid-al-Fitr holiday and held private engagements.
