Tinubu flags off Akwanga–Maiduguri superhighway

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday flagged off Section I of the Akwanga–Kaduna–Jos segment of the 700-kilometre Akwanga–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Superhighway, saying the project is aimed at improving connectivity, promoting economic growth and strengthening national integration.
Represented by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the President described the project as the fourth legacy highway initiative under his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said the superhighway “reflects our determination to build world-class infrastructure that will strengthen national integration, improve road safety, facilitate trade and unlock economic opportunities across the country.”
Tinubu said the Federal Executive Council approved the 700-kilometre highway, which is being executed in phases to ensure efficient implementation. He recalled that Section II of the project, linking Gombe and Biu, was flagged off on June 4, while work has now commenced on the 125-kilometre Akwanga–Kaduna–Jos section.

Providing updates on other ongoing road projects, Tinubu said Section I of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway has been substantially completed, while Section II in Ogun State has reached 60 per cent completion.
He added that Sections IIIA and IIIB in Akwa Ibom and Cross River states are about 20 per cent complete, Sections IVA and IVB in Akwa Ibom have recorded five per cent completion, while construction has commenced on Section V.
On the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, the President said Section I in Sokoto State is 40 per cent complete, Section II in Kebbi State has reached 60 per cent completion, Section III in Ogun State stands at 18 per cent, while mobilisation is ongoing on Section IV in Oyo State.
