‘Tinubu government has outperformed all others since 1999’ — Presidency

The Presidency has asserted that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has outperformed all previous governments in Nigeria’s democratic era, including the 16-year rule of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing significant strides in the energy sector and revenue growth.

In a statement released on Saturday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Communication and Strategy, responded to growing political opposition and calls for change from a newly formed coalition of civic and political groups.

Onanuga dismissed the coalition’s criticism as driven by “hate,” urging Nigerians to rely on verified data rather than political rhetoric when assessing the government’s performance.

“It is unthinkable that some groups, consigned to political wilderness, are calling for political change,” he said in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. “The Tinubu administration has recorded achievements that surpass what was done in the 16 years of PDP rule.”

He cited data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), which reported ₦12.2 trillion in revenue for 2024—a 176.7% increase from the ₦4.3 trillion posted in 2023. This surge, according to Onanuga, underscores the administration’s effective policies in the energy sector.

“NUPRC’s revenue growth is not an isolated success,” he added. “Other agencies, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), have also posted record-breaking results.”

While the Presidency touts these figures as evidence of reform and progress, critics argue that Nigeria still faces mounting challenges, including inflation, youth unemployment, and security concerns. The administration’s claims are expected to spark debate as the political climate intensifies ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Onanuga encouraged citizens to judge the administration by its record and to “make informed decisions” about the country’s future.
