Tinubu hails Adesina’s transformational leadership as AfDB tenure ends

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded the achievements of Dr. Akinwumi Adesina as he completed his tenure as President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anite, gave the commendation at the weekend during the book unveiling and send-forth ceremony held in Abidjan in Adesina’s honour.
The event, themed “Akinwumi A. Adesina: The Man, His Mandate, Mission and Message,” was described as a tribute to a decade of courageous, people-focused leadership that transformed millions of lives across Africa.

During his presidency, Adesina spearheaded the AfDB’s High 5 Agenda, which focused on expanding electricity access, boosting food security, driving industrialisation, promoting regional integration, and improving the quality of life for Africans.
He also mobilised innovative financing, including landmark social bonds, supported African economies through the COVID-19 pandemic, and accelerated programmes that strengthened food production and unlocked the continent’s potential.
Uzoka-Anite said Tinubu and Nigerians were proud of Adesina’s accomplishments, noting that his vision and integrity had set a benchmark for leadership across Africa.
“Dr. Adesina’s decade of service has been one of impact and inspiration. His journey is not over, as Africa still needs his wisdom and voice,” she said while conveying Tinubu’s congratulations.
The minister added that the Nigerian government and people look forward to Adesina’s continued contributions to the continent in his new chapter beyond the AfDB.
