Abuja Carnival: Tinubu says unity is possible through art, culture

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has highlighted the unifying power of art and culture as a testament to the achievements possible when people work together in harmony.

“The unifying power of art and culture on display here is a reflection of what we can achieve when we work together,” President Tinubu stated.

Speaking at the launch of the 2024 Abuja International Carnival, held at Eagle Square, Abuja, on Saturday, November 23, 2024, the president—represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima—emphasized the importance of the creative economy as a cornerstone of his administration’s economic diversification agenda.

President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to positioning Nigeria’s creative sector as a key driver of the nation’s global influence. He emphasized the carnival’s critical role in strengthening Nigeria’s position within the global creative economy.

“Our creativity continues to shine on the global stage, drawing admiration and respect. This heritage is the truest measure of what it means to be Nigerian—proud, resourceful, and innovative,” he said.

With the theme “Carnival of Renewed Hope: A Pledge to My Country,” the event featured captivating performances from across Nigeria and beyond, reflecting the administration’s dedication to cultural diplomacy.

The president also highlighted the economic significance of the creative industries, noting their substantial contributions to the nation’s GDP.

“Over the years, this carnival has become a platform for showcasing our rich cultural heritage and a driving force behind our growing creative economy.

“It has revitalized local industries, fostered cultural diplomacy, and contributed immensely to Nigeria’s position as a cultural powerhouse on the global stage,” he added.
