Tinubu hails Nigerian-American basketball star Anosike for historic success in China
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian-American basketball player Ejimofor Anosike following his remarkable achievements in China’s 2026 National Basketball League Championship.
Anosike, who plays for the Hong Kong Bulls, led his team to win the league title and capped off an impressive season by claiming multiple honours, including the Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP), Best International Player, and Slam Dunk Champion awards.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Anosike’s accomplishments as a reflection of exceptional talent, discipline, and resilience.
The President said the basketball star’s success on the international stage has brought pride to Nigeria and would inspire young athletes across the country and the African continent.
Tinubu added that Anosike’s achievements highlight the growing global influence of Nigerians in sports and reinforce the need for sustained investment in youth development and sporting excellence.
He also praised Anosike for maintaining his patriotism despite his overseas success, noting his commitment and passion as a member of Nigeria’s national basketball team, D’Tigers.
The President wished the athlete continued success in his career and greater milestones in the future.
