Tinubu hails veteran columnist Femi Orebe at 80

By Kunle Sanni –

President Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to veteran columnist and pro-democracy activist, Dr. Femi Orebe, on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

Orebe, a regular contributor to Nigerian newspapers for over three decades, is known for his incisive commentary on national and international affairs. His forthcoming book, Simply a Citizen Journalist, is set to be publicly presented soon.

In a statement on Wednesday, Tinubu described Orebe as “an ally and brother,” commending his advocacy for democracy and good governance.

“I have followed Dr. Orebe’s columns and informed commentaries over the years—first in the defunct Comet newspapers and later in The Nation,” the President said. “His pen is transformative. He writes to correct the ills of society and proffers ideas to engender necessary change.”

The President praised Orebe’s long-standing contributions to public discourse and policy debates, adding that his writings have influenced governance in Nigeria.

As the columnist marks his 80th birthday, President Tinubu wished him continued strength, wisdom, and grace.
