Tinubu honors fallen soldiers in Benisheikh, urges support for military

President Bola Tinubu has expressed condolences over the killing of soldiers from the 29 Task Force Brigade, Operation HADIN KAI, who died in a coordinated terrorist attack on their camp in Benisheikh, Borno State.
The Defence Headquarters confirmed the attack, which occurred early Thursday, April 9, 2026, resulting in the tragic deaths of several soldiers, including Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah.
In a statement on Thursday by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the fallen soldiers as “our unforgettable heroes” and extended heartfelt condolences to their families, the military, and the people of Borno State. He praised the bravery and heroism of the troops who fought to prevent Boko Haram from overrunning the communities under their protection.
“From the reports I have received, our armed forces have been conducting sustained, intense land and air offensives against the insurgents, neutralising many of their fighters and commanders. The insurgents’ counterattack is a sign of desperation,” the President said.
While mourning the loss, President Tinubu urged the military leadership and frontline soldiers to remain steadfast, drawing strength from the nation’s appreciation for their sacrifices. He also called on Nigerians and the media to support the military and refrain from condoning attacks against troops.
“The government will always stand by the Armed Forces, provide more of the equipment needed, and ensure the welfare of all who risk their lives for our safety,” he added.
President Tinubu reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to working with Borno State to achieve lasting peace and victory over terrorism.
