Tinubu meets Makinde, Mutfwang at Presidential Villa amid political consultations

By Kunle Sanni –
President Bola Tinubu on Thursday held separate meetings with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, fuelling speculation over intensifying political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Mutfwang arrived at the State House at about 3:00 p.m., while Governor Makinde arrived around 3:30 p.m., according to observations at the Villa. The governors met the President individually.
Although details of the meetings were not officially disclosed, the engagements come at a time of heightened political realignments, with key political actors holding strategic discussions as preparations for the next election cycle begin.
Governor Makinde, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is among the few PDP governors who have remained in the opposition despite recent defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Oyo State governor is also widely regarded as a leading figure within the PDP and is believed to be positioning himself for the party’s 2027 presidential ticket, adding political significance to his meeting with the President.
Governor Mutfwang, also of the PDP, has been engaged in consultations at the federal level amid ongoing discussions on governance and national unity.
The Presidency has yet to issue an official statement on the outcome of the meetings.
