Tinubu mourns former Super Eagles star Henry Nwosu

President Bola Tinubu has expressed condolences to the family of former Nigerian international Henry Onyemanze Nwosu, who died on Saturday at the age of 62.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President joined the Nigerian football community in mourning the former Nigeria national football team midfielder.
The president also described him as an exceptionally gifted player whose contributions to Nigerian football would not be forgotten.
Tinubu recalled Nwosu’s early rise to prominence, particularly his role as a 17-year-old member of the then Green Eagles squad that won the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations title.
The President also noted Nwosu’s more than a decade of service to the national team, including his participation in AFCON tournaments in 1982, 1984 and 1988, as well as his contributions to the development of football after his playing career.
According to the statement, the late playmaker will be remembered for the pride he brought to Nigeria and for inspiring a new generation of footballers.
Tinubu prayed for the repose of Nwosu’s soul and asked God to grant his family the strength to bear the loss.
