Tinubu mourns journalist, The Eagle Online publisher Dotun Oladipo
President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of veteran journalist and publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, describing his death as a loss to Nigeria’s media industry and the country.
Oladipo, 56, was a former Political Editor of The Punch newspaper and later founded The Eagle Online, a digital news platform.
In a statement on Wednesday, Tinubu acknowledged Oladipo’s contributions to journalism, particularly his years of political reporting and efforts to provide credible information through traditional and digital media platforms.
The President said Oladipo’s career demonstrated the role of journalists in strengthening democracy by informing citizens, holding public officials accountable and promoting public discourse.
Tinubu also commended the late journalist’s contribution to the growth of digital journalism through The Eagle Online, which he established after his career at The Punch.
“Dotun Oladipo’s death at the age of 56 is a painful loss to the Nigerian media community and to our nation. He was a committed journalist who devoted significant years of his life to informing the public and contributing to the development of our democracy,” the President said.
He added that Oladipo’s contributions to political journalism and digital media would not be forgotten.
Tinubu extended his condolences to Oladipo’s family, colleagues in the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) and friends.
“I pray that Almighty God will grant him eternal rest and give his loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” he said.
