President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away at the age of 90.

In a condolence message issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the late monarch as a revered traditional ruler, statesman, and symbol of peace and wisdom.

Tinubu extended heartfelt condolences to the royal family, the government and people of Oyo State, and all residents of Ibadanland, saying the Olubadan’s passing is a great loss not only to the Yoruba people but to the entire nation.

“Oba Owolabi Olakulehin was not only a custodian of Ibadan’s rich history and culture but also a man of intellect and principle whose contributions extended beyond the palace into education, governance, the military, and national development,” the President said.

He noted that the monarch’s life was marked by service—as a military officer, public servant, and traditional ruler who upheld the honour and prestige of the Olubadan throne.

Tinubu also revealed that he had recently received an invitation from the monarch for his 90th birthday and first coronation anniversary, which was due to be celebrated just days after his passing.

The President praised the monarch’s ability to bridge tradition and modernity, describing his leadership as a stabilising force in Ibadanland and the wider Yoruba nation.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the late monarch’s soul and urged the people of Ibadan to take solace in the enduring values the Olubadan stood for.
