Tinubu mourns retired Supreme Court Justice Uthman Argungu

President Bola Tinubu has joined the nation in mourning the passing of retired Supreme Court Justice Uthman Muhammad Argungu, who died at the age of 90.

Justice Argungu, a prominent jurist and respected elder statesman, passed away over the weekend and was buried on Sunday in his hometown, Argungu, Kebbi State, following Islamic rites.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the late Justice Argungu as a man of impeccable integrity who dedicated his life to the service of humanity and the nation.

Justice Argungu’s career spanned decades, beginning as a teacher in the old Sokoto Province before pursuing a distinguished path in law. He was called to the bar in 1965, and his legal journey culminated in his appointment to the Supreme Court in 1993.

Beyond Nigeria, he also served as a visiting justice of the Supreme Court of the Gambia, highlighting his international legal influence.

President Tinubu noted Justice Argungu’s significant contributions to the judiciary and the legal profession, describing him as a symbol of dedication and excellence.

The President extended his condolences to the late justice’s family, the government, and the people of Kebbi State.

He prayed for the repose of Justice Argungu’s soul and urged Nigerians to reflect on the values of integrity and service exemplified by the late jurist.

Justice Argungu’s death is regarded as a profound loss to the nation, marking the end of an era of selfless legal service and statesmanship.
