Tinubu nominates new NWDC, SEDC Chairpersons

President Bola Tinubu has forwarded a revised list of nominees to the Senate for confirmation, appointing key figures to the governing boards of the North West Development Commission (NWDC) and the South East Development Commission (SEDC).
In the updated list, Lawal Abdullahi has been nominated as the chairman of the NWDC.
Other new appointments include Ja’afar Abubakar Sadeeq and Yahaya Aminu Abdulhadi as board members.
Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji retains his position as managing director and CEO, alongside existing members Yahaya Namahe, Muhammad Wudil, Shamsu Sule, Nasidi Ali, and Aminu Suleiman.
The revised list also reflects a Senate-mandated adjustment to include representation from Nigeria’s six geo-political zones. New zonal representatives are Chukwu Chijioke, Ahmed Mohammed, Engr. Ahmed Rufai Timasaniyu, Macdonalds Michael Uyi, Yemi Ola, and Hon. Babatunde Dada.
In a related development, President Tinubu also nominated Hon. Emeka Atuma as chairman of the SEDC, with Hon. Mark C. Okoye named as managing director and CEO. Additional board members include Barr. Ugochukwu H. Agballah, Hon. Okey Ezenwa, Chief Hyacinth Ikpor, Hon. Donatus Eyinnah Nwankpa, Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu, Nasiru Usman, and Hamma Adama Ali Kumo.
Key executive roles include Prince Obinna Obiekweihe as executive director (projects), Sen. Anthony O. Agbo as executive director (finance and administration), and Dr. Daniel Ikechukwu Ugwuja as executive director (corporate services).
Focus on Regional Development
In a statement by Bayo Onanuga, on Friday, President Tinubu expressed his commitment to fostering development in Nigeria’s regions, urging the nominees to leverage their expertise to fulfill the commissions’ mandates. As pioneers, he expects the boards to drive transformative growth and development in their respective regions.
The Senate is expected to review and confirm the nominees in the coming weeks.
