Tinubu pledges federal support for security, infrastructure as Ondo clocks 50

President Bola Tinubu has promised federal backing for Ondo State in the areas of security and infrastructure as the state marked its 50th anniversary on Tuesday.

Akure, the state capital, was alive with activities as dignitaries from across the country attended the Golden Jubilee celebrations. Among them were Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, Ondo State Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami, former Governor Olusegun Mimiko, Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande, and Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. Traditional rulers, clergymen, and other stakeholders were also present.

Speaking at the Akure Township Stadium, Tinubu’s address, read by Tunji-Ojo, emphasised his administration’s commitment to harnessing Ondo State’s human and natural resources for sustainable development.

“Fifty years ago, Ondo State was created to empower its people, harness local talent, and bring governance closer to communities,” Tinubu said. “Today, we celebrate a state that has excelled in education, public service, culture, and economic contribution.”

The president described the Golden Jubilee as both a reflection on the past and a vision for the future. He noted that Ondo is blessed with fertile land, a long coastline, mineral resources, and a vibrant youth population.

“Agriculture, education, technology, tourism, and the blue economy are areas where the state can thrive. The Federal Government, under the Renewed Hope Agenda, will support Ondo in exploiting these opportunities, improving infrastructure, strengthening security, and empowering communities,” Tinubu added.

He urged the people to embrace unity and collective effort, calling on them to make Ondo a hub of innovation, education, agriculture, and technological excellence.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa congratulated residents on the milestone and urged continued unity. “Fifty years is a major milestone. As we celebrate our past with pride, we must confront our present with honesty and courage and ask: what kind of Ondo State are we building for the next 50 years?” he said.
