President Bola Tinubu has assured the people of Ogoniland that his administration will prioritize peace, justice, and sustainable development in the region.

Speaking during a meeting with Ogoni leaders at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday, the President called for unity and reconciliation to resolve longstanding issues and foster progress in the area.

Acknowledging the historical grievances of the Ogoni people, President Tinubu urged the community to focus on healing and building a better future. “We cannot rewrite history, but we can correct some anomalies of the past going forward. We cannot heal the wounds if we continue to be angry,” he said.

To facilitate progress, the President directed the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, to lead inclusive consultations and ensure mutual understanding among stakeholders. He also urged ministers, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), and the Rivers State Government to collaborate with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) in addressing the region’s challenges.

“We must work together with mutual trust. Go back home, do more consultations, and embrace others. We must make this trip worthwhile by bringing peace, development, and a clean environment back to Ogoniland,” President Tinubu emphasized.

Western Post online reported that the meeting was attended by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who expressed gratitude to the President for his commitment to the Ogoni people.

On his part, Governor Fubara pledged the delegation’s support in adhering to the President’s instructions, particularly in resuming oil operations in the area.

“What we are doing here today is to concretize the love and respect we have for the President for facilitating this meeting and for directing us to continue consultations with a timeline so that the resumption of oil production in Ogoniland will commence,” Fubara said.

National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu praised the Ogoni community for embracing dialogue as a path toward sustainable peace and development.

He highlighted the inclusive nature of the 50-member delegation, which represented the diverse interests and viewpoints of the Ogoni people.

Speaking on behalf of the Ogoni leaders, King Festus Babari Bagia Gberesaako XIII, the Gberemene of Gokana Kingdom, reaffirmed the community’s willingness to engage constructively in finding lasting solutions to the challenges facing Ogoniland.
