Tinubu reacts to attack on former president Trump

President Bola Tinubu has reacted to the recent shooting incident involving former President Donald Trump at a rally ahead of the US presidential elections scheduled for November 5, 2024.

In a statement issued on his X account, Tinubu described the attack against Trump as distasteful, noting that the incident goes beyond the bounds of democratic norms. He emphasized that violence has no place in democracy.

Tinubu said, “The attack on former President Donald Trump is distasteful and goes beyond the pale of democratic norms. Violence has no place in democracy.

During a campaign rally on Saturday in western Pennsylvania, shots were fired at President Trump. The incident resulted in two fatalities, including the suspected shooter, and two other spectators were wounded. The suspected gunman was a 20-year-old man from a nearby town, according to the FBI.

Law enforcement officials have swarmed the home of the alleged shooter and reportedly recovered a semiautomatic rifle at the scene, according to developing reports.

This incident has drawn significant attention, with experts expressing concerns about escalating political violence and its potential effect on the upcoming U.S. election campaign.

President Trump is running for re-election as a candidate for the Republican party.

The Nigerian leader also extended his sympathies to the former US president, expressing his wish for Trump’s relief.

Tinubu also expressed his condolences to the families of those wounded and killed in the campaign rally and wished them a quick recovery.

“I extend my sympathies to the former President and wish him relief. I also condole with the family of the deceased and those wounded and wish them a quick recovery.

“Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time.
