President Bola Tinubu has expressed appreciation for the support of the National Assembly over the past 19 months, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to advancing Nigeria’s development.
The President spoke on Wednesday during a New Year homage by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the leadership of the National Assembly, and former principal officers of the legislature at his Oyinkan Abayomi Drive residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The visit, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, preceded a similar courtesy call by members of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF).
“Nigerians are at the heart of everything we are doing. We have come to serve. Your visit has made my day. Happy New Year. May God bless you, our nation, and bring us greater prosperity,” Tinubu said.
“The transformative journey we have embarked upon is for all of us. It is for our tomorrow, for the future generations. Your commitment will bear fruit for the children yet unborn.
“Your dedication to value addition and fostering a spirit of determination is critical for building our nation. We are confident, capable, and resolute in our quest to take Nigeria to the Promised Land,” the President added.
Acknowledging the encouragement from lawmakers, Tinubu pledged to intensify efforts, embrace innovative ideas, and make bold decisions for national progress.
“In Yoruba, we say that only a courageous dog will capture the animal in the bush,” he noted.
Senate President Akpabio praised the President for his leadership, bold reforms, and commitment to rebuilding the nation. He assured him of the National Assembly’s unwavering support.
“On this journey of restoration, transformation, and nation-building, you are not alone. The National Assembly is with you every step of the way,” Akpabio said.
He highlighted positive economic developments under Tinubu’s leadership, including the oversubscription of Nigeria’s Eurobond, improvements in the ease of doing business, and growing foreign investor confidence.
“We salute our men in uniform and commend you for your courageous reforms. Investors are optimistic about Nigeria under your leadership, and we look forward to reaping the benefits,” Akpabio added.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, commended the President for his respect for the National Assembly and his inclusive approach to governance.
He noted that many key figures in the administration, including the President, Vice President, First Lady, Chief of Staff, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and several ministers, are former members of the National Assembly.
“The National Assembly is more united and fulfilled than ever before. Every request we have made to you has been granted, and we are grateful for that.
“We also thank you for bringing relief to the poor. While Nigerians faced challenges at the beginning of 2023, by year-end, food and prosperity started flowing in.
“We believe 2025 will be the ultimate year when every Nigerian will be proud of this administration,” Abbas concluded.
