Tinubu says Nigeria’s economy on recovery path at Olubadan coronation

By Kunle Sanni –
President Bola Tinubu on Friday declared that Nigeria’s economy has begun to recover, crediting the progress to the economic reforms introduced by his administration over the past two years.
Speaking at the coronation of Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, the President assured citizens that they would soon begin to feel the benefits of the reforms.
“Our economy has turned around and there is now light at the end of the tunnel,” Tinubu told the gathering in Ibadan. He praised Nigerians for their “support, endurance and sacrifices,” which he said made the reforms possible.
The President also paid tribute to Oba Ladoja, describing him as a key figure in Nigeria’s democracy who survived an “illegal impeachment” during his tenure as Oyo State governor. He congratulated the monarch, calling his ascension to the throne a historic moment.
“As President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it is a great honour to witness this history unfold,” Tinubu said, offering prayers for the monarch’s long life and reign.
Governor Seyi Makinde, who presented the new Olubadan with his staff of office and certificate, said the coronation marked the end of disputes over succession in Ibadan’s traditional institution. “All challenges associated with the Ibadan traditional institution are now over and put behind us. This means the process is now sacrosanct,” the governor said.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Ladoja reflected on his journey from Mogaji of the Arusa family in 1992 to his installation as Olubadan, attributing his rise to destiny rather than influence or wealth. “I accept not just the paraphernalia of office but also the responsibilities attached to it,” he said, while thanking both the President and the governor for their support.
The coronation was attended by top dignitaries, including Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo, Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, and Ademola Adeleke of Osun, as well as former governors Donald Duke, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Ibikunle Amosun, Gbenga Daniel, and Olagunsoye Oyinlola. Traditional rulers such as the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, were also in attendance.
