President Bola Tinubu has officially enacted the bill establishing the North-Central Development Commission (NCDC), aiming to foster development in Nigeria’s north-central region.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the presidential assent during a Senate session on Tuesday.

He said: “Let me also inform my colleagues that Mr. President has also assented to North-Central Development Commission establishment bill 2024, in order to bring development to the grassroot.

“And for this we congratulate, the good people of the North-Central region of Nigeria, and we wish them more development and particularly peace, as we forge ahead in the task of nation building.”

The NCDC is tasked with facilitating economic growth, infrastructure development, and social welfare programs across the north-central states, aligning with the government’s broader strategy to address regional disparities and promote nationwide development. This move brings the north-central zone in line with other regions that have dedicated development commissions, such as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the North-East Development Commission (NEDC).

In addition to the NCDC bill, President Tinubu has also signed legislation establishing a federal polytechnic in Rano, Kano State, and a federal university of health sciences in Tsafe, Zamfara State. These actions underscore the administration’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and promoting regional development across Nigeria.
