Tinubu signs South-West, South-South Development Commission Bills into law

President Bola Tinubu has signed the South-West and South-South Development Commission bills into law, ensuring all six geopolitical zones in Nigeria now have dedicated commissions for regional development.
Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, announced the development during plenary on Wednesday, emphasizing the significance of these commissions in driving grassroots progress.
“No mechanism is too much to trickle down development and dividends of democracy to the grassroots,” Kalu stated. “I am sure that with these development commissions, the impact of this administration will be felt by the grassroots.”
With the new commissions, the South-West and South-South regions will join the North-East, North-Central, South-East, and North-West in receiving targeted developmental projects.
In July 2024, Tinubu had previously signed bills establishing the South-East and North-West Development Commissions, completing the framework for all six zones.
These commissions will receive dedicated funding to implement projects aimed at boosting economic growth, infrastructure, and social services within their respective regions.
