Tinubu tasks acting IGP Disu to strengthen discipline, restore public confidence

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday charged the new Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to strengthen discipline within the Nigeria Police Force, enhance inter-agency collaboration, and restore public confidence in law enforcement.

Tinubu gave the charge at the decoration of Disu, a decorated Assistant Inspector-General of Police, with his new rank as Acting Inspector-General of Police at the State House, Abuja.

Describing Disu as a “straightforward, committed and respected” officer, the President said he possessed the discipline and experience required to lead the force at a critical time in Nigeria’s security history.

“You are a straightforward individual, committed and respected. You have sufficient amount of discipline,” Tinubu said. “The commitment Nigerians need from you is for you to make it better than you met it. And I’m sure you can do it.”

The President noted that Nigeria is currently grappling with banditry, terrorism, and other forms of criminality, describing Disu’s appointment as coming at a defining moment for national security.

“I expect you to strengthen discipline, enhance inter-agency collaboration and restore public confidence in the Nigerian Police,” he said, urging the Acting IGP to lead firmly but fairly and demand professionalism at every level while prioritising the safety of lives and property.

Tinubu also advised Disu to draw from the experience of the outgoing Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, acknowledging his service and leadership.

To Egbetokun, the President expressed gratitude on behalf of the nation for his dedication and contributions to maintaining law and order.
