Tinubu to launch nationwide child nutrition campaign, says First Lady

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, has announced plans to launch a nationwide child nutrition campaign, placing the issue at the forefront of her office’s upcoming initiatives.
Speaking during a meeting with U.S. Special Envoy for Best Future Generations, Charles Harder, on the sidelines of the Fostering the Future Together Global Summit hosted by U.S. First Lady Melania Trump in Washington, Senator Tinubu said the campaign would begin in the coming days.
She said: “Child nutrition will also be on the front burner in a few days from now through the Office of the First Lady when a nationwide aggressive campaign will be launched.”
The First Lady emphasised that improving child welfare remains central to the priorities of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that education and child development are critical to building a strong national foundation.
During the meeting, she also stressed the continued importance of books in schools despite rapid technological advancement, warning that excessive exposure to social media could distract children from deep learning.
“It is important for children to read books because it helps broaden their knowledge base without disruptions or interference from social media and related channels,” she said.
Tinubu further noted that effective leadership requires a deep understanding of citizens’ needs, adding that her husband’s administration is focused on reforms aimed at strengthening national institutions.
In his remarks, Harder said the engagement was aimed at advancing discussions on the needs of Nigerian children, particularly in areas such as nutrition, healthcare, protection from abuse, and education.
