Tinubu unveils tech-driven strategy to tackle insecurity

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to deploying emerging technologies to combat insecurity and protect lives across Nigeria.

Speaking on Monday in Port Harcourt at the grand finale of the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration and African Land Forces Forum (ALFF), the president said the government was modernising the Armed Forces through investments in advanced hardware and personnel capacity building.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Liberation Stadium, Tinubu said the administration would intensify intelligence-driven and technology-enabled operations to address contemporary security threats.

“My administration is firmly committed to countering contemporary threats through the adoption of emerging technologies and the building of capacity across all battle spaces, thereby improving operational planning and combat readiness,” he said.

Tinubu also highlighted research and development as a key pillar of the government’s security strategy, saying it would support home-grown innovations and strengthen Nigeria’s defence capabilities.

The president said the revitalisation of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), alongside partnerships such as the ALFF, would help build local capacity for the production of military hardware and create skilled employment opportunities.

He noted that while previous administrations had attempted to revive DICON, his government was determined to actualise the project in order to modernise the Nigerian Army and improve its ability to meet present-day security challenges.
