Tinubu urges unity, resource mobilisation as Ondo marks 50th anniversary

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on the people of Ondo State to strengthen unity, deepen democracy and harness the state’s human and natural resources to secure sustainable development over the next 50 years.
The president made the call on Tuesday at the grand ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Ondo State at the Akure Township Stadium. He was represented by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Tinubu described the golden jubilee as a moment of pride and a challenge for the state to chart a more purposeful future, commending the people for their conduct during the last general election, which he said strengthened Nigeria’s democracy.

He assured citizens of inclusive governance under the Renewed Hope Agenda, pledging continued federal support for Ondo State in infrastructure development, security and community empowerment.
In his address, Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, described the jubilee as a turning point for renewed unity, people-centred governance and responsible leadership, reflecting on five decades of resilience and progress. He thanked God for the steady progress of Ondo State, describing it as “going up and up and up,” with positive developments visible across sectors.

Aiyedatiwa recalled that Ondo State was created on February 3, 1976, as the fulfilment of a long-standing quest for self-governance, noting the state’s strengths in agriculture, solid minerals, human capital and education.
He outlined his administration’s priorities to include security, economic diversification, infrastructural renewal, human capital development, and transparent governance, describing youths as key drivers of the state’s future.
Goodwill messages were delivered by former governor Olusegun Mimiko, who urged reconciliation and forgiveness, and Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who praised Ondo State’s steady development, as dignitaries across the country attended the colourful jubilee celebration.
