The Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, has emphasized the need for robust public awareness campaigns and consumer education to combat misinformation surrounding the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Initiative.

Speaking during a bilateral session with the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, and other key stakeholders, Bala Usman outlined the critical role of education in promoting the adoption of CNG as an alternative energy source.

According to a post on X by the Central Delivery Coordination Unit (CRDCU) on Friday, the session included representatives such as Michael Olugbemi, Programme Director/CEO of the PCNG Initiative; Uzoma Nwagba, MD/CEO of Credicorp Nigeria; and Tola Fakolade, Head of the Project Secretariat for the National Single Window.

Usman noted that public misconceptions about CNG could hinder its acceptance and adoption, emphasizing that “awareness campaigns and consumer education are essential to building public trust and dispelling myths about the safety, efficiency, and affordability of CNG.”

She also advocated for financial incentives, including tax breaks, subsidies, and reduced registration fees, to encourage vehicle conversion to CNG. According to her, these measures, combined with strategic public engagement, would foster a cleaner energy transition while supporting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Bala Usman reiterated that addressing misinformation and ensuring citizens understand the benefits of CNG adoption are key to achieving the initiative’s objectives. “This is not just about transitioning to cleaner energy; it is about creating a sustainable economic future for Nigeria,” she stated.
