Tinubu’s Political Adviser, Baba-Ahmed reportedly resigns

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has reportedly resigned from his position.

According to Daily Trust on Friday, Baba-Ahmed submitted his resignation about two weeks ago.

The presidency is yet to issue a statement addressing the situation.

Appointed in September 2023, Baba-Ahmed served in the Office of the Vice President, Kashim Shettima. He was also previously the spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum (NEF).

Baba-Ahmed’s role in the Tinubu administration was not without controversy. In April 2024, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, appeared to criticize him, urging northern appointees to be more vocal in defending the administration.

This came after Baba-Ahmed challenged Matawalle’s dismissal of the Northern Elders Forum, which the minister had described as a “political paperweight.” The remark was a response to an NEF statement suggesting that the North had made a mistake voting for Tinubu in 2023.
