Tobi Amusan shines at national trials, wins third-straight title

Tobi Amusan secured her third consecutive national title in the women’s 100m hurdles at the National Trials held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin on Wednesday.

Amusan won comfortably with a time of 12.70s.

Faith Osamuyi finished second in 13.90 seconds, while Kemi Francis-Petersen took the third spot with a time of 14.14 seconds. Amusan’s dominant performance showcased her exceptional skill and form.

Competing on home soil for the first time since her world record-breaking achievement, Amusan’s win serves as excellent preparation for the upcoming 2023 World Athletics Championship in Budapest.

In the men’s 100m event, Usheoritse Itsekiri clinched his second national title.

Competing against a strong field, Itsekiri emerged victorious with an impressive time of 10.02s. Seye Ogunlewe took the second position with a time of 10.11s, closely followed by Alaba Akintola in third place with a time of 10.12s.

The women’s 100m race proved to be highly competitive, with Blessing Ogundiran seizing her first national title.

Ogundiran crossed the finish line in a time of 11.50s. Faith Okwose, the African U-18 100m/200m champion, finished closely behind in second place with a time of 11.51s. Ese Brume and Victory Godah both clocked 11.52s in third and fourth positions respectively.
