Tokunbo Wahab⁩ at 54: Celebrating a committed Lagos public servant — by Babajide Fadoju

Today, you turn 54, egbon. But let us be honest. Nobody believes it.

Not because you lied about your age. But because your work rate at the Lagos State’s environment desk is like a man who has sold his bed and sleeps standing up.

Some say you get Kante-like work rate in our local pidgin parlance..

At odd hours of the night, you still dey reply tweets asking for answers.

54 years on earth, yet you have the stamina of a man who handles pressure for breakfast and chews deadlines for lunch.

From cleanups to clampdowns, from enlightening residents, to scolding trolls, you have turned environmental management into a contact sport. And somehow, you do it smiling.

Ara ti ma ka n mi ti pe bi weyrey..
But I’m not you and you are not me. I’m Specs, you are TW for a reason.

At 54, you have done what men twice your age would call impossible.

You made monthly sanitation a thing again. You turned waste evacuation into a 24/7 operation. You have stared down cartels, sanctioned defaulters, and still found time to commission drainage projects while tweeting about a #CleanerLagos with the energy of a GenZ.

My leader, I wish you a year where the only thing overflowing is your joy, not the dump sites. I pray that your blood pressure remains as stable as your resolve, and that every street you visit smells like progress.

May your phone never stop ringing with good news, and may your critics run out of breath before you run out of ideas.

At 54, you are not aging. You are upgrading.

Happy birthday, Commissioner. Rest today if you can. But knowing you, you will probably inspect a landfill before blowing out your candles.

Stay WAHABsome.

Your guy, now and always (regardless of whatever)
