A two-year-old girl was on Wednesday confirmed dead after falling into a deep well in Saki, Oyo State.
Dr. Moroof Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency and Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Services Reform, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan.
According to him, the incident occurred at Orita Mokola Junction, Seedu Sabarumu, in the Sango area of Saki. The girl was recovered dead from the well and handed over to a police team led by CSP Odunbanjo Kehinde for further action.
While the cause of the incident remains unknown, Akinwande stated that the Fire Service’s Post-Incident Investigation Team (PIIT) has begun an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
He appealed to the public to observe safety measures around wells and septic pits to prevent such tragic occurrences, urging residents to ensure these areas are properly covered and secured.
Meanwhile, the agency also responded to a separate incident on Tuesday evening, where it recovered two bodies from the scene of a truck accident at the Ajegede Ode-Aje area of Ibadan at about 7:34 p.m.
Akinwande said the deceased were the truck driver and his motor boy. Their bodies were handed over to policemen from the Agugu Division for necessary procedures.
