Tragedy averted as petrol tanker falls in Ogbomoso

A tanker carrying forty-five thousand litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, fell on Friday at the Ayanyan area along the Ogbomoso/Ilorin Expressway in Oyo State.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, stating that the tanker, with registration number MAG 20 XB (Borno), lost control and swerved into a nearby pit.

He said, “On Friday, 30th May 2025, at exactly 12:30 hrs, a distress call was received via telephone and Alfa Kabiru Aderibigbe regarding a trailer tanker accident at the Ayanyan area along the Ogbomoso/Ilorin expressway in Ogbomoso.

“The firemen, led by PFS11 Oluwaleye, were quickly deployed to the scene of the accident. Upon arrival, we found a petrol trailer tanker with registration number MAG 20 XB (Borno), with a 45,000-litre capacity of PMS, which had lost control and swerved into a nearby pit.

“We swiftly swung into action by carpeting the spillage with a foam chemical compound and neutralizing the flammability to prevent ignition that might lead to a fire outbreak.

“No lives were lost, and properties worth millions of naira were saved by the Fire Services Agency. CFS Awoyemi Seyi, a team of policemen, and a team from the FRSC were present for security and traffic control, respectively.”
